New Blog, New Personal Approach to Digital

Published PersonalStrategy

BOOM! Witness the start of a new blog and a fresh approach to my personal digital strategy. This change had been brewing for a while, but it was finally kicked into gear by a web hosting charge that I can only describe as… outrageous. Consider this other post my structured rant on the matter.

A New Approach to My Online Presence

I’m coming back home: my blog.

Every year, I set a similar goal: to be more active on social media. And every year, I find myself in a tug-of-war between connecting with the industry, advancing a personal presence, and my natural skepticism toward social media platforms. Oh, the irony.

Since the current approach isn’t producing results, let’s change it. Rather than fighting my nature, I’ll embrace what’s comfortable. I’ll go back to posting on this wonderful, owned platform and syndicate the conversation (the comments) out to social media - with LinkedIn being my platform of choice at the moment.

Notable Points About This New Blog

Faster, more secure, free to host, and 100% mine.

It is not lost on me that I’m talking about a blog here, not a cure for cancer. Yet, I feel like I’ve discovered the Philosopher’s Stone of blogging. It’s a setup I’ve always wanted but didn’t realize was so easily within my grasp until recently.

It’s much faster. This blog is built on a “headless” infrastructure. That means the content you see -the HTML files - is completely separated from the system that creates it. Unlike a traditional WordPress site that has to assemble a page from a database every single time someone visits, a headless setup simply serves pre-built files (much faster).

It’s more secure. The exact same architecture that makes it faster also makes it more secure. Headless physically isolates the public-facing website from the back-end database where sensitive data lives. This reduces the attack surface significantly.

It’s FREE! Many platforms offer generous free tiers perfectly suited for content sites (like blogs). I’m very happy with Cloudflare, but you can also look into Vercel , Netlify, or GitHub Pages. The options are out there.

Ownership! This is a major pet peeve of mine: I like to own my things. I fully understand the trade-offs between tapping into the massive, built-in audiences of platforms like YouTube, Facebook, or LinkedIn versus posting on my own isolated island. But, at least for now, I’m not looking for fame. I’m choosing ownership.
