Referencing Cells in Excel with Next Analytics V5

March 18, 2013 by Jose Uzcategui Leave a Comment

Cell referencing is one of the great advantages of leveraging  NEXT Analytics and Excel. Recently I started working with the new Version 5 and found myself scratching my head when it came to referencing cells to define the time period a query – a silly little detail but, let’s write about it because surely I’m not the only one…

When you create a query in Next Analytics the Excel query will start with an apostrophe (‘). This makes it impossible to reference cells even after inserting the “=” sign and the cell referencing formulas. You might have gotten the warning below.

Apostrophe error in post

To solve this issue and reference cells in your queries, not only the date ranges, make sure you replace the apostrophe (‘) with a quotation mark (“) when adding the rest of the characters needed.

For example, the date range query could look like this:

Correct query referrencing cells

And voila! Your dashboard just got awesome-er!

PS: Thanks to the folks at Next Analytics for awesome support 🙂
