The rule of thumb is YES, you should have video on your site.

Why?

  • It’s free.
  • It’s entertaining. There’s a better chance for people to click on a video than to read a written post.
  • It helps your search engine rankings. They people behind these search engines try hard for them to behave like humans, and we like a page that has a variety of media.

Granted, video is not for everyone and everything. But here are three things you can use video for:

  • Create rapport with your customers. If you’re in an industry that is personal in nature – e.g. doctors, lawyers, counselors – putting yourself out there will give you an edge.
  • Review products or company talent. You’ve probably seen a video review – they communicate much more than the written ones.
  • Create your online community. Videos fuel online conversations. A good video will give good material to those “influencers” out there.

When making a video, always prepare what you’re going to say and write it down. Just like TV hosts and news anchors have teleprompters, you too should have something to keep you on track.
