A New Life As Dad and Other Work Thoughts

May 6, 2016 by Jose Uzcategui Leave a Comment

I’m sitting on a train on my way to my in-laws, we’ve been staying there for 3 nights now.

The train is good. It allows some time to sit back, think, and create posts like this. The kind of post closer to an out loud thought than anything contributing to whomever reads this blog. So as I write these thoughts, let me talk about some of the things that have been roaming my mind lately.

Being a dad. I’m almost 4 months into this new job. As much as we prepared to be busy, I’d say it’s impossible to really understand how busy you’ll be, or the new emotions on the menu now that I have a daughter.

No squash for the time being. There’s just no time. It would take the afternoon or the morning of a weekend to go the gym where playing would be worth it. I rather spend those time on daddy duties. Sayuri also appreciates it.

Google Analytics intra-day processing. Ridiculous. To think that there is some mysterious intra-day processing that reprocesses filtered data from late in the day to the earlier part of the day. If the filters don’t match it deletes older data.

Data and databases. MS SQL, Redshift. RDBSDSMDBDSagghhh… I wish data was clean and readily available. Oh wait. That’s what I’m suppose to make happen.

Teams in different part of the world. When is teleportation happening?

Date comparisons in Tableau. Also harder than one would imagine.

I would of course write a post on each of these topics. Perhaps it’s a matter of visiting the in-laws a bit more often and taking this train.
